The Travels page is the heart of my van life journal. I spent more time on this part of the website than any other section. The map shows when and where I’ve gone since my van was completed in August 2024. So far – I’ve driven approximately 20,000 miles, visited 27 states and stayed overnight in 25 of those states during the first 15 months.
The Travels map was created in layers with each layer documenting my journey by month and year. By using the pull-down menu, you can look at an individual month starting with August 2024. There are gaps in the timeline due to a couple of factors. Until I moved permanently into the van in March 2025, I only took few trips. My last map entry is for September 2025. I stayed in the Chicago area during October 2025 doing some work and preparing for my 2-1/2 week trip to Australia from November 1 – 18. I plan on hanging around Chicago from Thanksgiving to Christmas and then take off for the southwestern United States for the winter.
A main feature of the maps are the round markers. If you “hover” over a marker, information on when and where I stayed or visited will appear. If you “click” on the marker, it will open a website in another browser tab with more information on the campground or Harvest Host. There is also a Map Navigation button that will open a browser tab containing tips on moving around the map and zooming in and out of different sections.
I plan on updating the map on a more timely basis in the future – so stayed tuned.
